Bob Leszczak was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey. An only child, the television set and the phonograph became his favorite toys before the age of two, and his passion for both has never diminished. He is a lifetime vinyl record collector and music historian. Bob got his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, and while still in college he toured as a member of the vocal group, the Duprees, most famous for the Top Ten hit called “You Belong to Me.”
He also released recordings with numerous vocal ensembles, such as the Infernos, the Autumns, Retrospect, and the James Myers Quintet. At the same time, Bob was paying his dues in radio broadcasting and eventually became a popular on-air personality in great radio markets such as Boston, Washington, D.C., Tampa/St. Petersburg (where he garnered a coveted “Air Award” in 1999), Orlando, Hartford, Denver, and Riverside/San Bernardino, California (as Bob O’Brien).
He was also a panelist on the weekly TV talent show titled Lucky Break in 2006, and in 2013 was an extra in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning HBO motion picture called Behind the Candelabra. Bob was the writer/producer of a weekly five-hour music trivia program called Solid Gold Scrapbook for the United Stations Radio Network in the 1980s.
In recent years, Bob has returned to writing and is the author of Single Season Sitcoms 1948-1979, A Complete Guide; Single Season Sitcoms of the 1980s, A Complete Guide; Who Did It First? – Great Rhythm and Blues Cover Songs and Their Original Artist; Who Did It First? – Great Pop Songs and Their Original Artist; Who Did It First? – Great Rock and Roll Songs and Their Original Artist; From Small Screen to Vinyl – A Guide to TV Stars Who Made Records 1950-2000; The Odd Couple on Stage and Screen – a History with Cast and Crew, Profiles, and an Episode Guide; and Dynamic Duets – The Best Pop Collaborations 1955-1999. He is an avid jogger, and a fervent fan of football and baseball. He current works on-air at New Jersey’s number 1 station, WKXW-FM (New Jersey 101.5).
